EMF reduction tips
Shearwater (Steiner School) (NSW) (100% WI-FI free) Key points - EMF in School Environment The School adopted the precautionary principle in 2016 and the campus continues as a wireless computing environment. New laptops were acquired - Students and staff are expected to respect Shearwater’s low EMF environment by switching phones to flight mode while on school grounds - All visitors to the school are asked to respect Shearwater’s low EMF environment by limiting their mobile phone use to the car park areas and switching their phones to flight mode while on school grounds -Access to computers is limited to high school students.
Yallingup Steiner School (WA) (WI-FI free classrooms) - Why don’t you have computers? Don’t children need to learn computer skills? Waldorf primary schools generally do not support the use of computers in educating young children. However, Waldorf high schools in Australia do include computers as part of the high school curriculum.Material learned through computers arrives purely as information.Knowledge gained through direct personal experience and integrated into a broader understanding of life and the world is considered more vital thantechnology based on educational needs.A recent book, Failure to Connect: How Computers Affect Our Children’s Minds for Better and Worse by Jane Healy examines the subject in greater detail.
Lorein Novalis (Steiner School) (NSW) (100% WI-FI free) -With the seemingly increasing dependence on mobile phones and access to music we believe that there is an educational justification to teach the students at school that there are other ways to connect and not be reliant on such technology therefore we have placed a ban on the use of such technology at school and on school related activities including class trips. Permission to use a mobile phone may be given after school hours. The school is a wi-fi free zone and we discourage the use of mobile phones on the school property by everyone.
Linuwel (Steiner school) (NSW) (some WI-FI free classrooms) -Especially in the primary years, many behavioural, social and learning difficulties can be contributed to or exacerbated by exposure to electronic games and media. This is counter- productive to the children’s education and well-being, and parents/carers are expected to work with the class teacher in monitoring and restricting this access -Electronic devices: personal electronic devices are not used at school. There are guidelines relating to screen time for younger children, and acceptable use of IT and social media in the school context
Freshwater Creek (Steiner School) (VIC) (100% WI-FI free) -There is significant research with respect to the effect of computer games and digital media on the healthy development of the child. Many mainstream schools are now reviewing their use of digital devices in schools. As a Primary Steiner School, we do not use any digital or electronic media in our educational practice as we believe that children of this age develop healthily through engagement with the physical world, sensory experiences, cognitive skills development and opportunities for imaginative exploration. Authentic relationships with their teachers, fellow students and the wider community are fundamental to their wellbeing and these are experienced in the real, rather than cyber, world
Wild Cherry School (VIC) (100% WI-FI free) - Online services provided to students at Wild Cherry School in their finaltwo years of primary school will only be used for learning related activities and require informed parental consent and appropriate management
